Adopted Earth

Adopted Earth

The stolen child crawls
wandering through fields
his thoughts like flower-seeds
sailing in the air
catching and mating
far away from home.

The Ecuadorian sings
on middle earth
light from gravity's gentle pull
over and over
raindrops fall then disappear.

The Athenian song triumphs
and marches on my soul
my dreams like vagrant wishes
are falling on the ground
like unexploded bombs
waiting to be found again.

The beggar on horseback tromps
over gentrified marsh
les images de bourgeoisie
on soil that's far from maiden
the never-ending darkened scenes
of somnambulent echoes
as memory fades
and dreams recoil from recognition.
